What I-Parliament Is All About
I-Parliament is an initiative that brings together students from schools across India to discuss, debate, design and enact “law” in a simulated parliamentary session. I-Parliament offers school students, for the first time, the possibility of conveying their ideas to the law-makers of the land, as all legislation generated during a session is reviewed by Members of the Lok Sabha. I-Parliament has a strong policy-learning component. Students will meet with and interact with key national political leaders, policymakers, and policy experts.
The scale and nation-wide breadth of I-Parliament are unprecedented. Students will get to meet and network with peers from across the country. Furthermore, I-Parliament is conceived, developed, and executed by school students for school students. It is backed up by an expert mentor institution, Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, which helps in planning and executing the sessions and the mission of I-Parliament.
Since it's inception in 2016, I-Parliament has hosted 6 sessions and has been a platform for over 1000 students from all across India to voice their opinion on critical issues. Using the medium of the youth parliament, we have raised a number of issues such as Section 377, Right to Privacy and Electoral Reforms to Members of Parliament such as Dinesh Trivedi, Sushmita Dev and Shashi Tharoor.
